A+ requires passing two exams, and this camp covers both: Core 1 (220-1201) and Core 2 (220-1202). What You'll Learn in Core 1 (220-1201)

Core 1 covers the physical and connected side of IT support, in CompTIA's own weightings:

• Hardware (25%): cables and connectors, motherboards, CPUs, RAM, power supplies, storage devices, expansion cards, peripherals and printers, and building or upgrading a system for a given purpose.
• Networking (23%): TCP/IP fundamentals, ports and protocols, networking hardware, wireless standards, network services and configurations, and the small office and home office setups support staff meet daily.
• Mobile devices (13%): laptop hardware and components, display and accessory installation, mobile device types, and configuring mobile connectivity and application support.
• Virtualization and cloud computing (11%): cloud models and characteristics, and client-side virtualisation including purpose, requirements and setup.
• Hardware and network troubleshooting (28%): the largest domain, applying a structured troubleshooting method to motherboards, RAM, power, storage, displays, mobile devices, printers and wired and wireless network problems.

What You'll Learn in Core 2 (220-1202)

Core 2 covers the software, security and process side of the role:

• Operating systems (28%): Microsoft Windows editions and features, command line tools, the Control Panel and Windows settings, networking configuration on a client, installation and upgrade methods, and working with macOS and Linux.
• Security (28%): physical and logical security measures, wireless security protocols and authentication, malware detection and removal, social engineering and common threats, workstation and browser hardening, and securing mobile and embedded devices.
• Software troubleshooting (23%): diagnosing and resolving operating system problems, application issues, mobile device and application faults, and security incidents including malware infections.
• Operational procedures (21%): documentation and change management, backup and recovery, safety and environmental controls, incident response, communication and professionalism, and basic scripting and remote access technologies.

A+ Prerequisites and Exam Format

There is no mandatory prerequisite for CompTIA A+. CompTIA recommends roughly 12 months of hands-on experience in an IT support specialist role, which is guidance rather than a gate, and plenty of people take A+ to get that first role rather than after it. Each exam is a maximum of 90 questions in 90 minutes, mixing multiple choice with drag-and-drop and performance-based questions that put you in a simulated environment. The passing scores differ: 675 out of 900 for Core 1 and 700 out of 900 for Core 2. You need both to earn the certification, which is why this camp includes two vouchers and a retake for each.
